Pernell Whitaker was one of the slickest boxers of all time. This flashy southpaw was in a class of his own. (born January 2, 1964) is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1984 to 2001, and currently works as a boxing trainer. He is a four-weight world champion, having won titles at lightweight, light welterweight, welterweight, and light middleweight, as well as the lineal championship at lightweight and welterweight. In 1989, Whitaker was named Fighter of the Year by The Ring magazine and the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA). From 1993 to 1994, The Ring ranked him as the best boxer in the world, pound for pound.
